Le matin :- Lève-toi, Suzanne. Il est l’heure d’aller à l’école.
- Il est déjà 7h30 (sept heures et demie) ?
- Oui, et l’école commence à 8h30.
- Je me lève. Je veux mettre ma robe violette aujourd’hui.
- Non, un pantalon. Il fait froid.
- Mais moi j’ai chaud.
- Il fait froid dehors.
TRANSLATION
In the morning :
- Get up, Suzanne. It’s time to go to school.
- Is it already 7:30 ?
- Yes it is and school starts at 8:30.
- I’m getting up. I want to put on my purple dress today.
- No, pants. It’s cold.
- But I’m hot.
- It’s cold outside.

Matin (masc.) : morning. Se lever : to get up. Heure (fém.) : time, o’clock. Aller : to go. Déjà : already. Demi, demie : half. Commencer : to start, to begin. Mettre : to put, to put on. Violet, violette : purple. Robe (fém.) : dress. Froid : cold. Chaud : hot. Dehors : outside. |

Actually, telling the time is not that different in French and in English. You just have to
remember we run on a 24 hours cycle. Let’s see the basic today. Il est sept heures : It’s 7 o’clock. It’s 7. Il est sept heures et demie : It’s 7:30. It’s half past 7. And that’s it. Remember the words heures and demi and you’re good for most of the time telling. Let’s wait till you know all the numbers between 12 and 24 before going any further. |
